The senate has confirmed Victor Muruako as the chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) after holding the position in acting capacity for seven years.
Muruako was confirmed after Solomon Olamilekan, chairman of the finance committee, presented a report for the consideration of the senate on Thursday.
While presenting his report, Olamilekan said the nominee met all the requirements expected of him during the screening exercise.
“He is a former legal adviser to a former speaker of the house. His work experience started at NAFCON,” the lawmaker said.

“The nominee has been cleared by the police and the security agencies. He is competent to serve.
“The committee recommends that Barrister Victor Murukoro be confirmed as the chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission.”
The chairman expressed concerns that the board of the commission is not well constituted and may not perform its functions adequately.

But Yahaya Abdullahi, senate leader, said the confirmation of the nominee be stepped down until President Muhammadu Buhari sends nomination of members of the board.
Opposing the majority leader, Senate President Ahmad Lawan said the upper legislative chamber will ask the presidency to nominate members of the board.
“If we don’t confirm this person will still be acting. So we do the confirmation but write to the executive to send the other names,” Lawan said.
“This acting thing, the chairman when confirmed has a responsibility to turn around the commission. So much is expected from a man that has acted in that position for seven years.”
