Opeyemi Bamidele, majority leader of the senate
Opeyemi Bamidele, the senate leader, says he remains committed to support legislations that prioritises the welfare of Nigerians and promotes national peace.
His statement follows Ekiti State University’s (EKSU) decision to confer an honorary doctorate on him “in recognition of his contributions to the institution, the country, and the global community”.
According to a letter signed by Ife Oluwole, EKSU’s registrar, the university’s governing council and senate approved the award, which will be officially conferred during its convocation ceremony on March 29.
Bamidele, who will receive a Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa), described the honour as an encouragement to redouble his efforts in public service.

He reaffirmed his commitment to leveraging his role in the senate to promote the rule of law and enact policies that directly benefit Nigerians.
He vowed to leverage his office “to promote the rule of law; pursue the enactment of pro-people legislations and lead the path to collective peace and prosperity across the federation”.
This latest honour follows similar recognitions from the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, in February 2024 and Joseph Ayo Babalola University in January 2023.
