The senate has mandated Bukola Saraki, its president, to intervene in the impending face-off between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the federal government.
On Monday, ASUU embarked on a warning strike owing to the failure of the government to honour to a 2009 agreement, which basically has to do with increased funding for universities.
In a motion on Tuesday, Barau Jibrin, a senator from Kano state, asked the senate to urgently intervene in the matter before it becomes a full-blown crisis.
The upper legislative chamber acceded to the prayers of the motion, which include mandating Saraki to lead the charge in dialoguing with ASUU.
