Senate postpones plenary, ministerial screening

The Nigeria senate will resume plenary on Thursday, and not Wednesday as earlier scheduled, Nelson Oyewo, acting clerk of the senate, has said.

Oyewo disclosed this to journalists at the national assembly on Tuesday, but did not state the reason for shift in date. The one-day extension to resumption of plenary means the ministerial screening billed to continue tomorrow will no longer hold.

However, some prevailing matters such as the division of the senate over the nomination of Chibuike Amaechi as minister could have informed the change of date.

Also, the trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki is expected to continue at the code of conduct tribunal (CCT) on Wednesday, following the refusal of the court of appeal to stop the process.

It is not certain if Saraki will be present during the trial at the tribunal.

In September, he honoured the invitation of the CCT and pleaded not guilty to charges of false declaration of assets.
