Senate resumes ministerial screening after closed-door session

The senate, on Saturday, resumed the screening of ministerial nominees recommended by President Bola Tinubu.

On Friday, the senate adjourned the screening of the 48 nominees to Saturday.

At the resumption of plenary, the lawmakers moved to a closed-door session.

But after the closed-door session, the upper legislative chamber commenced the screening with the appearance of Lola John, a nominee from Lagos.

On July 27, Tinubu sent the list of 28 ministerial nominees to the senate for screening and confirmation.

Six days later, the president added 19 names to make the total number of ministerial nominees 47.

However, on Friday, Tinubu replaced Maryam Shetty, a nominee from Kano, with Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure.

The president also included Festus Keyamo, a former minister of state for labour, on the list of ministerial nominees.
