Senate shifts resumption to Wednesday

The senate has rescheduled its resumption of plenary from Tuesday to Wednesday, Benedict Efeturi, the clerk of the upper chamber, said on Monday.

Afeturi requested senators to resume sitting in plenary by 10am on Wednesday.

Though no reason was given for the postponement, it may be connected with the disagreements of the lawmakers with the president over the interest of some governors in the party’s senatorial tickets ahead of next year’s elections.

Some senators from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had alleged that the president was supporting governors, but President Goodluck Jonathan met with the aggrieved legislators on Thursday, a move that was seen as an attempt to pacify them.

Last week, the senate abruptly adjourned its sitting on two occasions.
