Sunday Katung, senator representing Kaduna south, says there are “fresh attacks and killings” in some communities in his district.
The senator said the communities are in Kauru, Kachia, Zangon Kataf, Kaura and Sanga LGAs.
Communities in southern Kaduna have experienced recurring incidents over the years that have led to deaths and displacement of many people. The farmer-herder conflict is one of the causes of violence in this area.
In a statement on Tuesday, the senator said 22 people – including women and children – were recently abducted in the Kugauta community located in Kaura LGA.

“I am deeply worried by the renewed attacks, killings and kidnappings in some of our communities across Kaduna south senatorial district by terrorists. These atrocities against our people must not continue unchecked and it must stop now,” he said.
“I am fully aware of the provisions of section 14(2) (b) of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria 1999 which declares that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.
“In this regard, I have since prioritized the safety and security of every citizen.

“To achieve this, I am fully collaborating with the Kaduna state government and the chief of defence staff to ensure the establishment of a Forward Operation Based (FOB) in Kauru local government and other communities to confront the assailants.
“I will continue to do whatever is necessary to secure the lives of our people. Katung commended security personnel for their efforts in taming the criminals.”
The senator asked the affected communities to partner with security agencies in providing relevant information that would lead to the arrest of the criminals and their informants.
