Senegal deny Sand Eagles World Cup ticket

The Super Sand Eagles of Nigeria have failed to book a ticket to this year’s FIFA Beach World Cup in Portugal after they lost 4-3 to Senegal in the semi-final of the CAF Beach Soccer Championship in Seychelles on Saturday.

Senegal took the lead in the first period of the match, but Emeka Ogbonna levelled the score few minutes later.

Abu Azeez then put the Sand Eagles 2-1 up only for the Senegalese to equalise 8th minutes into the first period.

Captain Isiaka Olawale came off the bench to give Nigeria a deserved lead which they maintained till the end of the period.

The defending champions Senegal piled up the pressure on resumption of the second period and it paid off with a goal.

Both sides could not score the winner in the third period and the game stretched to extra time.

Senegal buried the match in the three minutes of extra time to deny Nigeria of a place – yet again – in the World Cup.
