Hyacinth Alia, governor of Benue, has condemned the suicide bomb attacks on wedding guests in the Marrarraban Gwoza community of Borno state.
On Saturday, seven people were reportedly killed while 16 others sustained injuries after two suspected suicide bombers detonated explosives in Borno.
In a statement on Monday, Alia described the incident as “tragic and devastating”.
He sympathised with Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno, and residents of the state, adding that the thoughts and prayers of Benue people are with them.

“The reports of the attacks targeting a wedding ceremony, the subsequent funeral, and a hospital are particularly distressing,” the statement reads.
“Such senseless acts of violence against individuals celebrating significant life events, those providing and receiving medical care, are not only a direct assault on the affected families but also on the entire Borno state.
“My heart goes out to the families who have lost loved ones and to those who are suffering from injuries and trauma as a result of these heinous acts.”

“I hope for the swift recovery of the injured and the continued safety and security of your state. It is my sincere hope that peace will continue to prevail in Borno State and that the perpetrators of these senseless acts will be brought to justice.”
The Benue governor prayed for the deceased and asked God to grant the families the fortitude to bear the loss.
