President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, approved the review of the timelines for the All Progressives Congress (APC) caretaker/extraordinary convention planning committee (CECPC).
In a statement by John Akpanudoedehe, CECPC national secretary, the president granted the approval after detailed consideration of the progress report presented to him by the Mai Mala Buni-led caretaker committee.
The national secretary noted that the president also approved the timetable for APC ward, local government and state congresses.
He said the state congresses will hold on September 18, ward congresses July 24, and local government congresses August 14.

The committee also noted that the recent revalidation exercise conducted by the party recorded over 40 million membership nationwide.
“By the approved CECPC decision, the tenure of the caretaker committees at each level from ward, local government, state and national will end immediately elections are held at their respective levels and its officers immediately take oath of office terminating with the National Convention,” Akpanudoedehe said.
Buni also informed the president that the committee has decided to name the party’s national secretariat “Buhari House” in recognition of the president’s leadership role.

“Your Excellency, with your excellent leadership roles for the party, we are witnessing high-powered defections including serving governors from the PDP to our great party,” Buni said.
It is also interesting that the fortune of the party in the last year has greatly improved across the country, and especially in the South-East, which has been the stronghold of the opposition. I am pleased to state that the party is now more peaceful, more accommodating, and more united with greater prospects than when we came on board.
“It is with a sense of satisfaction that I submit to Your Excellency that the exercise was successfully executed with a record of over 40 million members who either registered as new members or revalidated their membership with the party.
“I also have the honour to inform you that in recognition of the untiring leadership role you have provided to our great party and the nation, and the democratic legacy you have put in place, the CECPC has approved to name the National Secretariat of the Party after you. The secretariat will henceforth be known as ‘BUHARI HOUSE.”
