‘Serial killer’ shot dead in gun duel with police in Ogun

Owolabi Oludipe, a suspected serial killer and notorious cultist, has been shot dead by operatives of the Ogun state police command.

Oludipe was reportedly shot dead during a gun duel with police operatives from the Odogbolu division of the state on Sunday.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, police public relations officer of the state, said the suspect, who had been on the wanted list of the command, was sighted at Ita-Ado area of Odogbolu where he and his cult group were said to be planning another attack on the community.

He said the division subsequently mobilised the police to the area following a tip-off.

“On sighting the policemen, the gang engaged them in a shootout, consequence upon which their leader, ‘Somori’, was shot and injured, while others escaped into the bush with their operational weapons,” he said.

“The suspect was quickly taken to the hospital but died while receiving treatment.

“The deceased had been on the wanted list of the command in connection with the killing of one Runsewe Segun, a civil defence officer who was murdered in cold blood on November 4, 2020, and one Sunday Kayode Adegbuyi who was also killed on February 16, 2020.

“He was responsible for the killing of a rival Eiye cult group leader by name Shoyombo Sanyaolu Fakoya on the 11th of November, 2020, during a supremacy battle between the two groups. He confessed to all the killings on the hospital bed before he gave up the ghost.

“Recovered from him are assorted charms which he wore all over his body, two live cartridges, and a mobile phone.”

Oyeyemi also added that another notorious serial killer terrorising Ijebu-Ode and its environs was killed by operatives of the command “early last month in similar circumstance”.

Reacting, Edward Ajogun, the state commissioner of police, praised the force for their “gallant display” and urged them to intensify efforts to apprehend the rest of the gang.

He also directed 24-hour surveillance of the town and its environs.
