Seun Awogbenle, author and youth advocate, and Ayodele Adio, publisher of The Avalon Daily, have announced ‘WhichWay Naija’, a conversation series on the 2023 general election.

In a statement on Thursday, the duo said the initiative will “democratise pre-election engagement” by providing an opportunity for Nigerians, particularly young people, to participate in no-holds-barred conversations.

“Our plan is to thoroughly cover the 2023 elections, by analysing and debating the most important issues to the average voter,” the statement reads.

“Our conversations will be shaped by the policies, positioning, and ideological leanings of the leading candidates at both the federal and state level.

“Our current realities have made the 2023 election a high-stake election. All our social and economic indices suggest that Nigeria cannot afford to get it wrong.

“A radical, urgent and competent leadership is required to turn the current tide. The only way to achieve this would be through voter education and informed analysis of the plans, programmes, and priority areas of the political parties and their candidates.”

The conveners also said the conversation will be driven through the use of digital and social platforms, as part of efforts to decentralise the conversation, foster inclusion, and avoid regulatory bottlenecks associated with mainstream media.

They added that journalists and social commentators drawn from different backgrounds would join the conversation from time to time to ensure robust engagement.
