Seven members of a family have been killed by suspected gunmen in Mbamondu, Benue state.
The gunmen had invaded the community located on the outskirts of Markudi, the state capital, on Saturday.
Scores of residents were also injured and about five with critical injuries have been taken to the hospital.
Benrard Unenge, the state’s commissioner for lands, survey and solid minerals, confirmed the incident. He said the seven bodies were recovered and deposited at the Federal Medical Centre Makurdi.

Unenge said he was the one who alerted security operatives stationed around the Adaka community to respond to the attack.
The commissioner said the attackers had already fled before the operatives got to the scene of the incident.
He described the attack as “heart-wrenching and tragic”.

The attack comes a week after 11 soldiers were killed by gunmen during a routine operation in Konshisha LGA of Benue state.
