At least seven passengers were reported dead while 50 others sustained injuries in a road accident that occurred along Potiskum road in Nangere LGA of Yobe state.
Dungus Abdulkarim, police spokesperson in Yobe, who confirmed the incident to TheCable, said the accident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Abdulkarim said the accident occurred after a heavy-duty truck carrying cattle and over 60 passengers collided with a shuttle bus.
“There was an accident this morning at about 9:40 am in Nangere LGA along Potiskum road,” he said

“A trailer carrying cattle outside the state collided with a shuttle bus carrying some equipment belonging to MTN with two passengers on board while the truck carrying cows had 66 passengers.
“The passengers were on the upper layer of the trailer, while the cows were underneath. They all went down when the truck and the bus collided.
“After the collision, one person died instantly, and over 60 persons were taken to a hospital at Nangere where two persons were also confirmed dead.

“The injured victims were transferred from the primary health care centre in Nangere to the General Hospital in Potiskum where four others died making seven persons in total that lost lives.
“Currently, this evening, 27 persons are still receiving treatment at the General hospital while 29 have been discharged.”
Also confirming the incident in a statement, Mohammad Kawuwale, an official of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), said eight persons died in the auto crash.
He said six of the passengers who lost their lives were those admitted at a hospital in Nangere, while the remaining two were in the General hospital at Potiskum LGA.

“It is eight people that died in the accident. Six in Nangere while the other two in Potiskum,” he said.
“There are also others who sustained serious injuries, they are about 26 admitted in Nangere, while 21 others were taken to Potiskum Hospital.
“The Yobe State Emergency Management team under the leadership of Mohammed Goje, is distributing free medicines to the victims.”
