The police command in Osun said seven officers were shot and injured by hoodlums while on their way to restore peace in the Ido-Ajegunle community, located in the Obokun LGA.
On Monday, violence erupted in the Ido-Ajegunle community following the appointment of a new traditional ruler.
The unrest began after the state government named Timileyin Ajayi as the Olojudo of Ido-Ajegunle.
However, residents rejected Ajayi’s appointment, arguing that their district head should have been elevated instead.

Several people were reportedly killed, and many others were left injured after some gunmen arrived at the community and opened fire.
According to NAN, Yemisi Opalola, the police spokesperson in Osun, said the command received a distress call that hoodlums were attacking people in the community.
She said the hoodlums attacked the police officers while on their way to the community.

“We received a distress call that hoodlums were attacking residents in the Ajegunle community, and when the police team was on its way, the officers discovered that the hoodlums had blocked the road with big logs of trees,” she said.
“When they tried to remove the blockage from the road, the hoodlums started shooting at them from their hiding place in the surrounding bushes.
“The officers, however, managed to retaliate and fire back, overpowering the hoodlums and also arresting some of them.
“However, during the shootout, seven police officers were shot and injured, but nobody died.”
