Report: Panel recommends indefinite suspension of OAU prof over sex-for-mark scandal

The committee set up by the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, to probe the sex-for mark scandal plaguing the institution has reportedly recommended the indefinite suspension of Richard Akindele.

Akindele, in a leaked telephone conversation, allegedly demanded sex to award a pass mark to an unidentified female student who had failed a course.

According to PUNCH, a source said the members of the committee recommended the indefinite suspension of Akindele, a professor, pending when it concludes and submit its findings.

The committee member said while Akindele has appeared before the investigating panel, the female student involved, identified as postgraduate doing her master of business administration, has failed to show up.

“We recommended indefinite suspension of the professor pending the time the final report will be ready. The committee, in its interim report, established a prima facie case against him,” the source was quoted to have said.

“We invited him and the female student. We identified the student and invited her, but she did not appear; only the professor honoured our invitation. I don’t want to tell you what he said on the telephone.”

The source said the final report will be ready when the lady shows up.
