SGF’s suspension ‘will make fight against corruption more credible’

Taidi Jonathan, a former chairman of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), in Niger state, says the suspension of Babachir Lawal, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), will make the war against corruption more credible.

In an interview with NAN on Thursday, Jonathan faulted the inclusion of the attorney‐general of the federation (AGF) in the panel investigating Lawal.

Abubakar Malami, the AGF, is among the three‐man panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to probe Lawal.

Vice‐President Yemi Osinbajo is the head of the committee.

“The AGF should excuse himself from the panel having earlier investigated and cleared the SGF on the same issue,” he said.

“In law, the attorney‐general cannot review his previous investigation.”

He also urged the state governments to take the fight against corruption seriously by taking steps to sanitise their administration as “this is the only way to ensure good governance and development in the country”.
