Shake-up in police ahead of Saturday polls

Suleiman Abba, inspector-general of police (IGP), has ordered the redeployment six deputy inspectors-general of police, five assistant inspectors-general of police and six commissioners of police of police.

Emmanuel Ojukwu, acting commissioner of police and police spokesman, announced the redeployment of the senior officers in a statement on Thursday.

According to Ojukwu, the adjustment in the police hierarchy is to further reposition the force for a successful conduct of the 2015 general election.

The redeployment of the senior officers is coming a few weeks after 33 commissioners of police were redeployed.

This will be the third shake-up in the police since the appointment of Abba as IGP in August 2014.
