The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says a suspected case of COVID-19 – now deceased – did not die of the disease.
In a tweet on Saturday, the NCDC said the epidemiology unit of the federal capital territory administration (FCTA) investigated the case after their attention was drawn to it.
“The @officialFCTA Epidemiology Unit has investigated and confirmed that the patient in question did not die from COVID-19, but had other medical complications,” the centre tweeted.
“Enquiries for the FCT team can be made to the FCT #COVID19 Situation Room- 07080631500, 08099936313, 08031230330.”

The centre gave the explanation in response to question by Happiness Ejim, a Twitter user resident in Abuja.
In a series of tweets on Thursday, Ejim said she had called the centre to report her neighbour who had returned from the UK but refused to self-isolate.
According to her, the NCDC promised to send its officials to investigate the suspected case but they did not come.

Ejim said the suspected case, a woman, later died after she was taken to the hospital.
“@NCDCgov about three weeks ago, I called to report my neighbor who got back from London and was not self isolating and you promised to come pick them up but y’all never showed up. Well she is dead. I hope you come now,” she had tweeted.
