Shehu Sani, a former senator, says he does not believe that Leah Sharibu, a secondary school student kidnapped in Dapchi, Yobe state, is dead.

Sharibu was among the 112 students kidnapped from Girls Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe state, by Boko Haram members on February 19, 2018.

There were fears concerning her well-being after one of the victims kidnapped last week said Sharibu had been killed.

In a video obtained by TheCable, a victim identified as Grace said she did not want a similar fate with Sharibu and those killed in captivity.

She had appealed to the federal government and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to assist in securing her release.

Many social media users commented on the development. While some concluded that Sharibu had been killed, others were of the view that Grace spoke under duress.

In a tweet on Thursday, Sani said he did not believe that SHaribu had died.

“My personal opinion; I don’t believe that Leah Sharibu is dead,” he tweeted.

While TheCable could not verify Grace’s claim, Action Against Hunger, the non-governmental organisation, that Grace worked for before her abduction has confirmed the authenticity of the video.
