Shehu Sani, senator representing central district, says anyone who borrows money and cannot repay will end up a slave.
Sani said this in response to criticisms that trailed the senate rejection of a N350 million loan request by the Kaduna government.
“If you borrow money that you can pay, you are a businessman; If you borrow money that you can’t pay, you are a slave,” he tweeted.

Speaking on the senate floor on Thursday, Sani said if the loan was granted, the state’s debt stock would rise to $582.1 million.

Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president in supporting the loan rejection said: “A loan application for infrastructural development is not bad in itself but the failure to consult with representatives of the people before application was clearly undemocratic.”
