Osagie Okunbor (pictured, right) has been appointed the managing director (MD) of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC).
Okunbor, who is also the country chair of Shell companies in Nigeria, has taken the baton from Mutiu Sunmonu, who retired after spending 36 years in service.
The new Shell Nigeria managing director, a graduate of business administration, has worked for 28 years in the oil industry, serving in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
He was formerly the vice-president, human resources for Shell’s upstream business in sub-Saharan Africa and vice-president, infrastructure and logistics Shell Nigeria.

Commenting on the new appointment, Markus Droll, vice-president Nigeria and Gabon, Shell upstream, expressed confidence that Okunbor would deliver on his duties, saying: “Sunmonu has worked very hard over these years – managing production and setting a new agenda in dealing with communities, government and other key stakeholders.
“We are confident that Okunbor will consolidate and build on the progress we have made in the past years.”
