The Independent Hajj Reporters (IHR), a civil society organisation (CSO), will host its annual lecture on effective planning of 2025 hajj exercise in Abuja on September 4.

Ibrahim Mohammed, national coordinator of the group, said the event will include an award ceremony to honor hajj officials for outstanding service during the 2024 exercise.

Mohammed said Vice-President Kashim Shettima will be the special guest of honour, while Abdullahi Lau, national leader of Jamaatu Izalatul bidiah wa ikamatis Sunnah, will serve as the chairman of the event.

He said the public lecture titled: “Strategic Time Management for Effective Hajj 2025” will be delivered by Wasiu Gabadeen, deputy rector of hajj institute of Nigeria.

He said the event’s theme was chosen to highlight the importance of prioritsing time in the 2025 hajj planning and the risks associated with not adhering to it.

“IHR instituted these awards about 15 years ago after every hajj operation to honour those who stood out in the service of pilgrims during a preceding hajj operation,” the statement reads.

“The goal is to encourage them to continue to do more and also motivate others to give their best.

“Most of the issues and challenges faced during this year’s hajj was as a result of the failure to do the right thing at the right time which eventually took its toll on the operations.”

Other dignitaries expected at the event include Mariya Mahmood, minister of state for federal capital territory (FCT), and  Faisal Al Ibraheem Al-Ghamdi, Saudi Arabian ambassador to Nigeria.
