Shettima to speak at climate change forum in Abuja on October 14

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has been announced as a keynote speaker at the second edition of the Africa Climate Forum (ACF) to be held between October 14 and 15 in Abuja.

In a statement, the Global Centre for Law, Business and Economy (GCLBE), the organisers of the forum, said Shettima would be represented by Rukaiya el-Rufai, the special adviser to the president on the national executive council (NEC) and climate change.

With the theme “Africa’s climate future: Pathways from dependence to leadership,” GCLBE said the forum ” will serve as a platform for high-level dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaborative action towards sustainable development and climate resilience in Africa”.

The organisers added that the forum would focus on topics such as energy access, climate finance, green manufacturing, and gender inclusion in climate solutions.

Commenting on the timeliness of the forum, George Nwangwu, director-general of GCLBE, said: “The Africa Climate Forum 2024 comes at a crucial time when the continent must seize the opportunity to lead in sustainable development.”

“We are excited to gather diverse stakeholders to address our shared climate challenges and drive actionable solutions that will benefit not just Africa, but the world.”

Benjamin Mukoro, the forum’s coordinator, noted that the event will build on the successes of the forum held in 2023 to create a space for innovative ideas, robust discussions and impactful partnerships.

“With the participation of key figures, we are confident that this event will catalyze significant progress in our collective climate goals,” Mukoro said.
