Shina Peller, a member of the house of representatives, says Nigeria’s problems will be minute if the leaders are well-informed.

Peller spoke at the sixth Get Involved Leadership Training (GILT) organised by the Lead Generation Initiative (LGI) in Ilorin, Kwara state, on Wednesday.

The lawmaker represents Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola federal constituency in the lower legislative chamber.

He said to achieve a great country, citizens who understand the importance of strong institutions should hold political office.

The founder of LGI said his mission is to train youths that would drive development at the grassroots.

“Those are the kind of people we are here to train,” Peller said.

“Our mission here is simply to train interdependent leaders who can in turn train others that can drive development right from the grassroots.

“We believe in the bottom-up kind of leadership approach, because from our findings, if the majority of our communities are led by well-informed citizens, our challenges as a nation will be minimal.”

More than 50 participants drawn from 16 LGAs of the state were trained on public advocacy, civic engagement and how to identify leadership practices.

The LGI has held five editions of GILT in Oyo, Osun, Bauchi, Gombe and Niger states.
