‘Shut up and work’ — Dare hits Rohr over ‘attitude’ towards home-based Eagles

Sunday Dare, minister for youth and sports development, says the attitude of Gernot Rohr towards home-based players is “not acceptable”.

TheCable had earlier reported that Rohr had delegated the job of coaching the home-based Eagles to Austin Eguavoen, the technical adviser, while he lounged at the spectator stands and watch proceedings.

The development sprouted a lot of criticism for the Franco-German who has been faulted for his little regard for footballers who ply their trade in the local league.

Adding his voice to the criticism, Dare asked the NFF to call Rohr to order, saying he was employed to give opportunities to all Nigerian footballers regardless of their status.

The minister spoke while visiting the home-based Eagles at their camp in Abuja on Tuesday.

He added that Rohr “needs to shut up and do the work for which he was hired to do”, saying he must blend both foreign-based footballers and home-based players together to create a team.

“I just found out that he has travelled ahead. But I think it’s important that we tell the NFF to call Gernot Rohr to order,” he said.

“Because we cannot have a technical coach who will discriminate amongst our players, they are football players, they have talents, and you can’t discriminate. His attitude towards home-based players is not acceptable.

“It’s negative to our football development in this country and I call on the NFF to call him to order. I call on the NFF to hold him by the letter of his contract.

“But beyond that, he needs to shut and do the work for which he was hired to do. He talks too much. We have started a process now. We will make sure that these players here we measure that talent and skill. He must blend the home-based players with foreign-based players.”
