Siasia: Our defenders panicked

Samson Siasia, Nigeria U-23 team coach, says his players were lucky to escape the Mali side in Sunday’s encounter at the CAF championship in Senegal.

Speaking to CAF website after the game, Siasia said that the match was a difficult one.

“It was a difficult match. We played very well in the beginning and scored three goals,” he said.

Siasia, who had earlier said his team, is in Senegal to book a ticket to Rio 2016 Olympics is now wary of his side’s defence.

“The defenders made two mistakes which cost us, and they scored twice. The defenders panicked and they almost equalized. I guess we were lucky to escape.”

The Dream Team VI tops group B and will face Egypt on Tuesday at the Caroline Faye stadium in Mbour for the second game.
