Sit-at-home: Police commissioner launches grassroots security initiative in Enugu

Kanayo Uzuegbu, the commissioner of police in Enugu, has launched a grassroots security initiative aimed at fostering relationships with residents of the state.

According to him, the initiative will enhance public security and safety.

Speaking after interfacing with traders and transporters in popular markets on Monday, Uzuegbu said the patrol is aimed at encouraging citizens to help in stopping the illegal sit-at-home order.

The commissioner urged residents of the state not to abandon their lawful businesses on Mondays over the fear of gunmen imposing the illegal sit-at-home.

“This patrol is to entrench a policing pattern/initiative that is grassroots-driven, proactive, people-oriented and problem-solving (G-3Ps),” he said.

“The G-3Ps initiative will ensure the security and safety of the people; as it remains topmost on my policing agenda for the state.”

During a tour of the state capital in July, Peter Mbah, governor of Enugu, asked residents in the state to “erase” the sit-at-home order from their memories.

The governor had also warned that businesses that obey the sit-at-home will have their licences revoked.
