Six killed as ‘bandits fleeing Zamfara’ attack Sokoto community

Six persons have been killed in Sokoto by gunmen said to be fleeing a raid by security agencies in Zamfara.

The gunmen were said to have attacked Lambar Tureta in Tureta LGA of Sokoto state in the early hours of Thursday.

The attackers were said to have invaded the community, which is located near the border area which Sokoto shares with with Zamfara, around 2am on Thursday.

Several persons were reportedly injured and are currently receiving treatment at a health facility in the state.

Manir Dan’iya, deputy governor of Sokoto, who led a delegation to the community on Thursday, urged the residents to remain calm.

He also assured the residents that the government is working with security operatives to fish out the perpetrators of the attack.

Sunusi Abubakar, police spokesperson in Sokoto, confirmed the incident to TheCable, but said investigation is ongoing.

“We have the confirmation of the incident. We are still on it. We are still investigating the matter, but the incident is confirmed and details will follow later,” he said.

The development comes amid reports of a major raid by security agencies on bandits’ camps in Zamfara.

Telecommunication services have also been shut down in Zamfara.

Speaking on the development, Isa Pantami, minister of communications and digital economy, said security agencies requested the shutdown of telecommunications activities in Zamfara as part of the strategy to tackle insecurity in the state.
