Six killed, houses destroyed as gunmen attack Sokoto communities

Gunmen have killed six persons following an attack on Bare and Kojiyo communities in Goronyo LGA of Sokoto.

Bashar Abubakar, special assistant on media to Aliyu Wamakko, senator representing Sokoto North, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.

The gunmen were said to have attacked the communities on Wednesday and destroyed houses.

Goronyo is one of the LGAs in Sokoto where banditry activities have resulted in killings and displacement of people.

Wamakko described the incident as unfortunate and inhumane, adding that an immediate investigation should be conducted to apprehend the perpetrators.

“APC Leader in Sokoto state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko (Sarkin Yamman Sokoto), has condoled with the people of Goronyo local government area of Sokoto State over the ungodly attack by some unscrupulous elements which occurred on Wednesday,” the statement reads.

“The attack which occurred at Bare and Kojiyo villages of the local government was said to have left about six persons dead, while several houses and foodstuffs were destroyed.

“While praying for the repose of the departed souls, the senator called on the authority concerned to be  steadfast in arresting the menace and put strong mechanisms in place to avert the reoccurrence of the dastardly act.”

The senator also called for urgent interventions to address banditry in Goronyo LGA, adding that he has received information that Sabon Garin Dole village in the same LGA has been invaded.

He urged people of the state to continue to pray to almighty Allah to bring an end to banditry in the country.
