Police: Six killed in Borno bomb attacks

Six persons have died in bomb attacks which occurred early Saturday in Jere local government area of Borno state, the police have confirmed.

Victor Isukwu, the state’s police command public relations officer, said two Boko Haram female suicide bombers detonated IED vests in the outskirts of Alakaramtii village, killing themselves in the process.

He also said two other bombers carried out an attack in the area.

“At about 0650hrs, two other teenage female suicide bombers infiltrated Alakaramtii village. One of them hurriedly detonated her IED vest killing herself, her partner and an innocent boy while four others including the mother of the innocent boy, sustained injuries,” the statement read.

The corpses and the injured have since been evacuated to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. The police said its EOD team promptly rendered safe the unexploded IED and sanitised the area.

“Normalcy has since been restored to the area,” Isukwu said.

In the past few weeks, Maiduguri and other parts of Borno have suffered bomb attacks carried out by Boko Haram insurgents.
