Soldiers ‘shut down’ Banex plaza in Abuja over clash with traders

Some military personnel have reportedly shut down the popular Banex plaza in the Wuse 2 area of Abuja after a clash with traders.

In several videos on X, the soldiers were seen with about five operational vehicles stationed outside the plaza on Monday.

Some soldiers were also seen standing at the entrance of the shopping complex, preventing traders from gaining access to the plaza.

There was pandemonium on Saturday afternoon at the plaza when some traders engaged two soldiers in a fight.

Witnesses said the soldiers visited the plaza to complain about a phone, which caused an argument with the traders, and a fight ensued.

After the incident, many shop owners and traders quickly closed for the day to avoid being caught up in a reprisal attack.

On Monday, military personnel arrived in about five Hilux vehicles and reportedly shut down the plaza.

Efforts to reach Onyema Nwachukwu, the army spokesperson, for comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls and messages.
