Soludo’s son, Ozonna, gearing up for release of debut album

“And we glow, we glow, we glow” is the refrain in one of the songs of Ozonna Soludo, son of Charles Chukwuma Soludo, erstwhile governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Laced with inspirational lines, the song is skillfully cadenced in silky beats, and it is to the celebration of life as it is. Yes! The song is done by the son of an academic, which rings in the affirmative that not every son will turn out like his father.

Ozonna, who is now “glowing” in world music, especially in the United Kingdom and the United States, at an early age, charted his own path in music away from the cloistered world of parents.

Just like DJ Cuppy, daughter of oil magnate Femi Otedola; and Falz, son of renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana, Ozonna faced “little” resistance from his parents, who noticed his passion for music and encouraged him to pursue his dreams.

Born on February 11, 1994, Ozonna studied at the London Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, from where he launched out in 2013 doing music professionally. He was 19 at the time; although he started writing songs back as a 12-year-old in secondary school.

The 20-year-old and first son of his parents sings a congenial blend of rhythm and blues and pop. His brand of music testifies to his originality and rich intercontinental cultural background. His mostly-inspirational songs are a laser departure from the drunken beats and cacophony that typify songs by young singers of his age.

In this age of Shoki” and Dorobucci, Ozonna dazzles in message-filled songs. His lyrical prowess is not in doubt, and his songs are uplifting – a tonic to anyone going through a rough episode in life.

His song, Me and you on topwhich has garnered 313, 146 views on YouTube, is about his lyrical ability and is strongly worded in a message of hope.

I love me, which has received 161, 355 views on YouTube, strikes a chord with anyone who is self-loathing.

His voice is silky tenor with the trenchancy of Tunde Baiyewu of Lighthouse Family, but he also cuts the look of nerdy pop star and a focused singer who may not slip down the slope of women and alcohol. His videos are barren of naked women and other obscenities, which also announce his strong Catholic upbringing.

According to IndieNation blog, a blog which profiles entertainers, “he has met and worked with talented artistes, including Lynn Verlayne (an artiste development specialist), and Grammy Award nominated producers Jimmy Greco/Russ DiSalvo, and Scott Jacoby who have helped to shape a wholly-unique sound that is fitting to his music. He continues to attract well-known names, including Stephanie George, Tove Lo, Duffy, and Kitty Brucknell, to his fan base .”
