Some desperate politicians are attempting to change the names of candidates already submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2019 elections.
According to a source, the politicians are trying to get some electoral officials to manipulate the list despite the October 18 deadline by the commission.
He said it is unclear if INEC leadership is aware of the move which gained momentum on Monday.
“What is ongoing at the ICT Centre of INEC is a clear illegality by desperate politicians in collusion with the leadership of their political parties. The deadline given by INEC for official submission of names by all the political parties had since elapsed and any other thing to the contrary at this time is a clear act of illegality,” he said.

“Some incumbent members of the national assembly are still laying siege to the Aso Drive residence of the chairman of one of the major political parties to put pressure on him to sign new CF002 forms to facilitate the illegal substitution of names.”
However, some candidates whose names have been officially submitted to INEC by their political parties have called on the leadership of electoral umpire not to allow the list to be tampered with.
A house of representatives candidate from Imo state who doesn’t want his identity revealed called on INECto immediately investigate the allegation of name swapping.
