FIFA says it has received four bids from countries seeking to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
The world football governing body announced the development in a statement on Monday.
South Africa has submitted its bid to host the competition, according to FIFA.
The country was the first African nation to host the men’s World Cup in 2010 and is hoping to extend the record to the women’s game.

The African country would compete with Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands who have submitted a joint expression of interest to host the tournament while the other joint bid includes the United States and Mexico.
Brazil is the other nation to submit a bid to host the women’s football showpiece.
FIFA said it would send the bidding agreement to all interested countries, who will have until May 19 to confirm their involvement.

The statement added that the hosts would be appointed at the FIFA congress on May 17, 2024.
“The expressions of interest represent four confederations (CAF, Concacaf, CONMEBOL and UEFA) and the remaining two (AFC and OFC) are hosting this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup. This level of participation confirms the global appeal of the competition,” the statement reads.
“FIFA will now send the Bidding Agreement – a document necessary to ensure that the key principles of the bidding process are observed – to the interested MAs, which will have until 19 May 2023 to return it and confirm their involvement.”
The 2023 edition of the competition is billed to hold in Australia and New Zealand from July 20. It is the first time more than one country would host the tournament.
