South Africa ‘not worried’ about Ebola ahead of Nigeria trip

Dominic Chimhavi, South Africa Football Association (SAFA) head of communications, says there are no health concerns for Bafana Bafana ahead of next week’s trip to Nigeria.

The fear of an outbreak of the Ebola virus was the reason Morocco relinquished their hosting right for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) but Chimhavi does not exercise such fears, saying there have been no extra medical precautions taken ahead of Bafana’s trip.

“We don’t want to delve in such issues. That’s a sensitive issue, especially from South Africa,” he said.

“We don’t want the rest of Africa to think that we are xenophobic. These are our brothers and we hope to receive brotherly reception from Nigeria.

“We always get receptive reception from the Nigerians. We hope for the same when we travel there for the game on Wednesday.”

The team is currently in Durban for the first of the two games left for the 2015 AFCON qualifying campaign against Sudan on Saturday before heading to Uyo, Nigeria for the second and final game on Wednesday.
