Senzo Meyiwa, South Africa’s national football team captain and goalkeeper, has died after being shot, according to South African police.
The shooting incident happened at Meyiwa’s girlfriend’s house in Vosloorus, south of Johannesburg, according to reports.
The 27-year-old (pictured) played for Orlando Pirates, and kept goal in South Africa’s four Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers so far, including the goalless draw with Nigeria in September.
On Saturday, he played for his club, helping them to qualify for the semi-finals of the South African League Cup.

South Africa currently tops Nigeria’s group in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series with eight points from four matches.
