Soyinka, Falana to honour Kunle Ajibade at 60

Wole Soyinka, Nobel laureate; Femi Falana, human rights lawyer; and Kingsley Moghalu, former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN); are among those lined up to honour Kunle Ajibade, renowned journalist and author who will be 60 years old on May 28, 2018.

They speak at a colloquium scheduled to hold at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) on Kofo Abayomi street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Guests are expected to be seated by 10am on Wednesday, May 30.

“As you might be aware, our friend and colleague, Kunle Ajibade, a rounded journalist, author of Jailed for life, and What a Country!, an omoluabi to the core,” read a statement signed by Odia Ofeimun, notable poet and scholar and Ololad Bamidele, an editor at Premium Times.

Ofeimun and are the chairman and secretary of the organising committee.

“To honour him, the Friends of Kunle Ajibade and other well-wishers are putting together a one-day Colloquium in his honour on Wednesday, May 30 at NIIA. It would be followed by a Cultural Evening/Poetry Reading at Freedom Park, Broad Street, Lagos by 5pm on the same day.

“The Colloquium, which would be led by Professor Wole Soyinka, the 1986 winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, is on A Bright Future for Nigeria and How to Get There. This would involve a number of notable speakers including Mrs. Ayo Obe; Mr. Femi Falana (SAN); Ms. Ayisha Osori, Mr. Owei Lakemfa, etc. The Cultural Evening will comprise tributes, readings and music, involving poets, solo saxophonists, drummers and other performance artistes.”
