SPOTTED: DCP Abba Kyari attends wedding of IGP’s son in Borno

Abba Kyari, suspended deputy commissioner of police (DCP), on Saturday, attended the wedding ceremony of Maina Alkali, son of Usman Alkali, the inspector-general of police (IGP).

Kyari’s presence at the wedding was a first in months since he came under investigation over allegations of his involvement in an international scam.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had revealed how Kyari allegedly collaborated with Hushpuppi, the self-confessed international fraudster, to jail one of the latter’s associates, after a dispute over a $1.1 million scam on Qatari businesspeople.

But Kyari denied the allegation, claiming that his “hands are clean”.

In September 2021, Muhammad Dingyadi, minister of police affairs, had said a report by the panel set up to probe the suspended DCP had been submitted to Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF).

In October 2021, there were reports that the police had received a notice on Kyari’s extradition to face trial, but the IGP said he was yet to receive a formal request on the matter.
