Spurs earn derby point at Arsenal

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have played out a 1-1 draw in Barclays Premier League north London derby at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Spurs took the lead just after the half-hour mark as Danny Rose’s ball over the top was met by Harry Kane, who showed good composure inside the box to score.

Kieran Gibbs came on in the 73rd minute and scored the equaliser four minutes later when he met Mesut Ozil’s cross at the far post.

Olivier Giroud had several chances to find a winner for the Gunners, but his 78th-minute effort flew over the top and his header five minutes later was kept out by Hugo Lloris, whose side hung on for a share of the spoils.

The result sees Arsenal remain second in the table, behind leaders Manchester City on goal difference, while Spurs climb to fifth place.

Aston Villa battled out a tough draw with Manchester City to end a seven-game losing streak in the league.

City put just three shots on target and were denied a stoppage-time winner as Fernando headed against the crossbar.

At Anfield, Crystal Palace defeated Liverpool 2-1 to hand Jurgen Klopp his first loss as Reds’ manager.

Scott Dann’s header nine minutes from time gave Palace their first win in four games and moved them above Liverpool into eighth place.

Yannick Bolasie opened the scoring for Palace before Philippe Coutinho drew the host level just before half-time.

Klopp was unbeaten in three league games and six in all competitions since replacing Brendan Rodgers.
