The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) and other stakeholders have asked the Edo government to establish a disability commission as enshrined in the state’s 2022 Disability Rights Law.
During a Ford Foundation-supported policy dialogue, Ann Okufuwa, JONAPWD chairperson, spoke about the necessity for inclusivity and equity, adding that the commission should be led by a person with disability.
Abdullahi Usman, JONAPWD president, decried discrimination against persons with disabilities (PWDs) nationwide, citing inaccessible public buildings and exclusion.
He echoed sentiments that PWDs should enjoy the same privileges available to able members of the society.
