Nigeria’s first indigenous beer brand, Star, has completed the building of the largest bottle tree in the world made with 8,000 beer bottles, at Eko Atlantic Bar Beach Stretch, Victoria Island.
This happened during the annual deluxe Copa Lagos beach soccer event from December 12 to 14, 2014 in Lagos, Nigeria.
The Star bottle tree, which sits proudly at the Star Beer Village, was built to showcase the creativity that abounds in the country and it stands as an iconic landmark shining on into the New Year 2015.
Speaking at a press conference held to officially unveil the tree, Walter Drenth, marketing director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, said the company was humbled by the overwhelming attraction to the Star Bottle Tree by consumers and those who appreciate creativity, since its erection.

“We are overwhelmed by how our people generally have reacted to this humble idea of a giant Star bottle Christmas tree. It goes on to show that people appreciate creativity and our efforts at adding excitement and joy, for which we are grateful,” Drenth said.
“This feat we have achieved is one that hasn’t been done before and we pride ourselves in the attempt to bring joy and perhaps even break a world record. With this, we have put Nigeria on the world map and made Lagos, a tourist site that it truly is. We hope that Nigerians and Star Lager consumers appreciate it and see reasons to be proud of being citizens of Nigeria.”
The bottle tree is a first-of-its-kind in the country, symbolising greatness and the enterprising Nigerian spirit personified by Star Lager, the country’s leading beer brand.

The Star bottle tree broke the current world record of 1,000 beer bottles being held by the Chinese in the city of Shanghai for being the first tree made with 8,000 beer bottles.
