Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has taken a swipe at President Bola Tinubu.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Abubakar accused Tinubu of fiddling with Nigeria in the face of worsening insecurity.
The president is currently away in Paris, France, on a “private visit”.
In the post, Abubakar asked Tinubu to “step aside” if the responsibility of the president’s office is too big for him.

He said while the president has been away, kidnappers have killed a grandmother in the nation’s capital and two traditional rulers in Ekiti state.
The former vice-president said the country needs 24/7 leadership to confront insecurity and address the country’s ailing economy.
“Tinubu is playing fiddle while Nigeria is drowning in the ocean of insecurity,” he posted.

“To imagine that the Commander-in-Chief is on a so-called private visit while kidnappers kill a nursing mother and grandmother in Abuja for failing to pay N90m ransom and two monarchs in Ekiti, among other regular tragedies besetting Nigerians.
“If the shoes are too big for Emilokan, he should step aside. Nigeria does not need another Tourist-in-Chief. The country needs 24/7 leadership to confront the pervasive insecurity and collapsing economy.”
