Stephen Odey, PDP candidate, wins Cross River north bye-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Stephen Odey, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the winner of the Cross River north bye-election.

Odey secured 129,207 votes to defeat Joe Agi, candidate of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 19,165 votes at the election which was held on Saturday.

The seat became vacant following the death of Rose Oko, a PDP member, in March.

Ameh Akoh, the returning officer in the state, declared Odey winner.

Maria Godwin Akwaji, PDP candidate, also won the Obudu state constituency seat in the house of assembly.

Akwaji polled 32,166 votes to defeat Abor Adaje, candidate of the APC, who secured 3,546 votes.

The PDP won in Ogaja, Bekwarra, Yala and Obudu.
