Stock market report: Market cap drops by N704bn

Transactions on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Monday showed that market capitalisation decreased by N704 billion to close at N13.127 trillion against N13.831 trillion achieved on Friday.

Similarly, the All-Share Index, which opened at 39,831.00, depreciated by 75.53 points to close the day at 39,755.47.

Julius Berger led the gainers’ table, appreciating by N3.49 to close at N75.49 per share.

Uacn followed adding N2.80 to close at N60.80, while Flour Mill rose by N2.50 to close at N73.00 per share.

However, Nestle led the losers’ chart, dropping N10.01 to close at N1,069.99 per unit.

Wapco lost N2.44 to close at N110.06, while Mobil dropped N1.00 to close at N129.00 per share.

Transcorp was investors’ favourite stock, with a turnover of 105 million shares worth N52.5 million.

In all, investors exchanged 360.02 million shares worth N6.52 million achieved in 4,816 deals on Monday against the 198.03 million shares valued at N3.09 billion traded in 5,187 deals on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Naira traded flat against the U.S dollar, as sales by Chevron and Shell boosted dollar liquidity in the interbank forex market

Chevron Nigeria sold $43 million to lenders while Royal Dutch Shell sold an undisclosed amount, which helped ease the pressure of demand for the dollar.

Traders said the naira traded calmly as oil companies bought naira to meet local obligations.
