Strange ailment claims 12 in Ondo

A strange disease has led to the untimely end of about 12 persons in Ode-Irele, a community in Irele local government area of Ondo state.

Addressing reporters in Akure, capital of the state, Dayo Adeyanju (pictured middle), the state commissioner for health, described report which claimed that the ailment is Ebola as false.

He said samples from victims have been sent to Lagos for laboratory analysis in order to detect the source and name of the disease.

Adeyanju also disclosed that preliminary investigations have shown that the yet to be known disease affects the central nervous system of its victims.

He revealed that about four persons affected by the disease have been quarantined in a special ward at the General Hospital, Ode Irele.

The commissioner said heatlh personnel and equipment have been deployed to the affected community to contain the outbreak of the disease and warned against the spread of false information, particularly on social media.

He advised people in the locality to report any strange illness to the nearest health facilities and advised family members of the deceased to bury their corpses properly in order to prevent further spread of the disease.

Unconfirmed report has it that the traditional ruler of the town has fled because the ailment is a spiritual repercussion of atrocities committed by inhabitants of Odo-Irele.
