Student abducted as gunmen attack mission school in Plateau

Gunmen have abducted a student of the Calvary Ministries, a mission agency popularly known as CAPRO, in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau state.

The gunmen reportedly attacked the school on Wednesday night.

Security agencies were said to have been alerted when some of the students noticed strange movements around the premises.

While some of the students reportedly escaped during a gun battle with the attackers, one of them was said to have been taken away by the gunmen.

Gabriel Ubah, Plateau state police spokesman, confirmed the incident to TheCable on Thursday.

He said tactical operatives have been deployed in the area and efforts are being made to secure the release of the student and apprehend the abductors.

“The command received a report of abduction of a student pastor from King’s School [CAPRO], Gana Ropp in Barkin Ladi LGA,” he said.

“Tactical operatives have been deployed to the area. Concerted efforts are on towards rescuing the victim and arresting the perpetrators.”

The Plateau incident is the latest in a series of attacks on schools across the country.

Gunmen had recently abducted some students from Greenfield University in Kaduna state and five of the students were later killed.

A few weeks before, bandits invaded UBE primary school at Rama in Birnin-Gwari LGA in Kaduna, days after a similar attack.

Gunmen had also attacked Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in Igabi LGA of Kaduna state, abducting 39 students — 10 of whom have regained their freedom.
