Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, governor of Kwara, has directed payment of N10,000 each to indigenous students in public tertiary institutions in the state.

In a statement on Tuesday, the governor said the move is the latest of his administration’s interventions to alleviate the effect of the petrol subsidy removal in the state.

Abdulrazaq said the fund will be coordinated by a government committee comprising student representatives and other stakeholders.

“In addition to our previous multisectoral interventions, I have directed the payment of N10,000 each to students of Kwara origin in public-owned tertiary institutions as a special support to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal,” the statement reads.

“This will be coordinated by a government committee, including representatives from the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) and National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

“I have also approved a stipend of N10,000 each for some categories of security agents defined as the first line of defence in our state. The stipend would be disbursed through the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) Office.”

The development comes days after the governor approved monthly cash support of N10,000 for public servants in the state.
