The Northern Governors’ Forum has condemned the killing of three students of Greenfield University in Kaduna state.
Gunmen had invaded the institution on Tuesday, and kidnapped some of the students.
Three of the students were later found dead at a location near the university on Friday.
In a statement on behalf of the northern governors on Saturday, Simon Lalong, governor of Plateau and the chairman of the forum, described the act as barbaric.

He called for improved efforts from governments at all levels to address insecurity in the region, especially in schools, stating that such attacks will have implications on the future of education in the region.
“There is no justification for the kidnap and murder of the innocent students who were simply in school to study and prepare themselves for service to the nation. This action, according to him, is an act of sheer wickedness that must not be allowed to go unpunished,” the statement by Makut Macham, spokesman to the Plateau governor, reads.
“The Northern Governors have continued to engage the Federal Government and security agencies towards a lasting solution to this menace of kidnapping and other criminal activities, particularly in schools which has great implications for the future of education in the region and the nation at large.

“Lalong said the recent meeting of the Forum with President Muhammadu Buhari and Service Chiefs was to further consolidate on measures towards addressing the security challenges of the region and the nation as a whole.”
The governors also called for the immediate and unconditional release of the other abducted students.
