Sudan’s RSF attacks village, ‘kills 100’

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group in Sudan, has reportedly killed at least 100 people in an attack on a small village in Wad Madani, Sudan.

The Wad Madani resistance committee, a pro-democracy group in the village, made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday evening.

The group said it “witnessed a genocide on Wednesday after the RSF attacked twice, killing up to 100 people”.

The local group added that the villagers requested help from the army during the attacks, but the troops did not heed the plea.

The RSF said it attacked the army and allied militia bases around Wad Madani but did not mention civilian casualties.

The RSF took control of the village last December.

The paramilitary group began fighting the army in April 2023, following disputes over the integration of the two forces. The group has since taken over the capital, Khartoum, and most of western Sudan.

The estimated death toll currently is as many as 150,000.

Nearly nine million Sudanese have been displaced, and 25 million people — half of the country’s population — are in need of humanitarian aid.

Experts project that in the worst scenarios, 2.5 million people will die from famine, 18 million will face acute food insecurity, and nearly 4 million children will be acutely malnourished.
